Tim’s career in human services began in the early 90s when he worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Kelowna and fell in love with the job – a summer recreation programs for people with special needs. From there he did a short stint with a residential agency and then went on to providing employment supports for people with barriers to employment. Then with a move to Ontario, Tim joined what was then Community Living Haliburton.
Tim says his job with Community Living is a little different than those he had before he moved, but has all of the same elements. He enjoys being in a helping role, supporting someone to move towards their goals. Or to, “Just to have the best time ever.” 🙂
Tim was initially hired as a coordinator of the Community Participation program. Twenty-three years later he’s still with Community Living and, he says, has been rewarded with a fulfilling career. “I’ve work in several roles and have sat on many committees, being supported and empowered in my roles providing help to the people we support.”
Tim is currently with our Job Quest program as an employment coordinator, where he helps people with barriers to employment move towards their goals. He is also one of our unofficial photographers and does an incredible job of capturing the heart and spirit of the people we support in his beautiful photos.
He tells us, “I find [working Employment Counsellor] to be a rewarding job and [it] ticks all the boxes for variety. Sometimes it’s just helping someone with a resume, other times it’s helping with life stabilization and crisis management. Being in a helping role is a rewarding job. The benefits are pretty good, too.”
