Introducing: Jessica Bushey, Coordinator, SIL

Jessica began working for Community Living while studying for her psychology degree at Trent University. Her initial position, part-time support worker in our Community Homes program, was the perfect match for Jessica. It allowed her to bring in some extra income and go to school, while not feeling overloaded.

That was 15 years ago. Since her start, Jessica has worked as support staff, an Assistant and Coordinator in Community Homes and a Passport worker. Currently she is a Coordinator for the Supported Independent Living program. In all of these positions, Jessica has enjoyed her work and embraced opportunities to learn and grow.

“I grew up while working for Community Living,” Jessica tells us. “I was mentored by my peers and learned invaluable lessons from the people I supported. That, along with the training opportunities I was given, allowed me to flourish.”

Interestingly, Jessica had no intention of pursuing a career in the developmental services. Her mother, who had worked for Community Living Peterborough herself, suggested that Jessica give it a try. What recommendation could be better? As it [often] turns out, mother was right and Jessica is still with us (thanks, Mom).

Jessica loves how every day of her job is different from the last. She has an enthusiastic desire to enjoy work and promote the positive atmosphere that Community Living creates. She sits on the CLTH Positive Vibes Committee, whose members organize an array of events that encourage wellness and fun throughout the year for staff and people supported.

“In general, I am everyone’s cheerleader. I love seeing people overcome barriers, achieve their goals and dreams, and seeing people thrive. And I get paid to do that, which is pretty awesome! I absolutely love supporting people to live their best life, however they define that.”
