Joan, who has been with us for more than 16 years tells us, “I’ve been in human services since I went back to college in 1991 for my Development Service Worker (DSW) diploma. After my first semester I began working relief, gaining hours while I studied in the field. From day one I knew I had chosen the right career path. Will’s career journey took many twists and turns before he found his way to our doors. After working in water haulage, health care, fast food and on the front lines of the restaurant business he found himself feeling like a square peg in the proverbial round hole when it came to his work. Jessica began working for Community Living while studying for her psychology degree at Trent University. Her initial position, part-time support worker in our Community Homes program, was the perfect match for Jessica. Tom began his journey with Community Living eleven years ago as part-time staff in residential services. He quickly realized his love for the field and took on a midnight position a year later, followed by an assistant position the year after that. Tim’s career in human services began in the early 90s when he worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Kelowna and fell in love with the job – a summer recreation programs for people with special needs. Ashley has been with Community Living for 15 years, starting part-time while taking the Social Service Worker program at Fleming College. Prior to being hired as Community Living staff, Ashley had high school placement in the day program on Sherbrooke Street for two years.
