April is Autism Awareness Month, a time to learn more about what it is like living on the spectrum and how we can support people with autism, and their families and caregivers. April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day.
It is estimated that 1 in 66 children and youth have been diagnosed with autism in Canada, and the diagnosis of adults is becoming more and more common as well. Yet, those living on the spectrum remain misunderstood by most people.
During Autism Awareness Month we promote the full participation of people living with autism – working to ensure that they have the necessary support to exercise their fundamental rights and freedoms.
This is also a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people on the autism, and to celebrate what they have to offer to their communities and to society.
