News from our Locals – Stories of the People We Serve (Sept 11)

Here is the latest news from our locals Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton.

Mountain Street
Erica is enjoying looking after her garden each week. This week her highlight was harvesting the beets with Cathy Darlington for dinner.

James’s highlight of the week is going for walks around Head Lake Park and going for coffee with Carol Prindiville, and this past week was no different.

Community Participation
Members of the Abbey Gardens group had a great day painting rocks for the Enchanted Forest trail and later went for a hike on the trail to check out their work.

Many of the people we support are happy that Special Olympic Bowling has started up again.

The Thousand Island’s Boat tour will be took place this past Saturday … pictures to follow.

Community Homes
Rochelle set an ISP goal to attend plays and concerts in the community, which she achieved with the assistance of the Elgin team and her family. Rochelle and her sister-in-law Janie went to the theatre in Lindsay recently to see Annie. We asked Rochelle whether she enjoyed the show and she indicated, “Yes!”

Marg and Rochelle attended an art class at Heart and Soul in Lindsay, and enjoyed the class and the instructor. Rochelle made a welcome sign to go on the front porch of Elgin and Marg made a pillow to go on the love seat where she typically sits. Way to go, ladies – your art work looks amazing.

Donald went to the Canadian Automotive Museum with assistance from the staff at Elgin. He enjoyed checking out all of the cool cars there as well as everything else that the museum had to offer. Donald visited the gift shop as well and bought a miniature version of his favourite car as a souvenir. Upon returning home, Don was super excited to tell everyone about his Oshawa adventure.

Community Participation
Community Participation Kawartha Lakes organized a recent summer trip on the Orillia boat cruise, while the Monday Funday group got together for an end of the summer barbeque (see pic at top of the page).
